Rabat – The 2021-2022 academic year in Morocco will begin on September 13 according to the Minister of Education’s Facebook page announcement shared this Tuesday, August 24.
Saaid Amzazi, Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, said that classes will start on September 13, following the recent delay announced in light of the current sanitary situation in the country.
The Minister reminded Moroccans that this new school year comes amid rising COVID-19 infection rates, the emergence and spread of highly contagious new variants,and the wide variations in infection rates between provinces and regions.
The Minister added that “three types of teaching will be available, namely virtual, hybrid and in-person,” adding that the choice will depend on regional educational authorities and the unfolding of the epidemic situation.
Apart from the date of the start of the school year, the school calendar announced by the Department of National Education on June 22, remains unchanged.
According to the ministerial order, teachers will have to return to their institutions from September 2.
All remaining employees (administration, inspection, logistic and financial services, planning, etc.) will have to join the workplace starting September 1, in order to enact the necessary preparations for the return of classes.
The resumption of non-formal education is scheduled for October 4.
The period from September 10 to 18 will be devoted to the evaluation of students’ achievements and the review of the past year’s learning, before tackling the new program starting September 20.
According to the Ministry, the program has remained unchanged, noting that the program may still be impacted by changes according to the development of the epidemiological conditions in the kingdom.
It should also be noted that the start of the school year for primary and secondary cycles will not take place on September 3, as it was postponed to September 10.
