Rabat – King Mohammed VI confronted all parties involved in recent attacks targeting Morocco and its institutions.
The King addressed a strongly-worded speech to the nation today, marking the 68th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and People.
The speech covered many perspectives, but focused mainly on the smear campaign Morocco has faced recently from different parties, including foreign countries and NGOs.
The monarch did not explicitly name the parties targeting Morocco. However, the speech comes amid accusations, claims, and allegations launched by NGOs against Morocco.
Recently, Forbidden Stories and Amnesty International published a report that was widely shared by international media that accused Moroccan intelligence of improper use of its espionage tools.
The report claimed Morocco supplied its intelligence apparatus with the Israeli spyware program Pegasus to spy on journalists, critics and high-level personalities , that included French President Emmanuel Macron.
Some reports spreading the claims even suggested that Morocco’s intelligence operatives spied on King Mohammed VI.
Morocco’s government and institutions have strongly condemned the campaign, describing the accusations as unfounded and baseless.
Two birds, one stone
The King warned that all Moroccans are mobilized to face enemies targeting Morocco’s security and territorial integrity.
The speech slamming campaigns against Morocco’s sovereignty also comes amid an unprecedented hostile media campaign launched by Algeria in recent weeks
A few days ago, Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboun chaired a high council meeting, where he levelled unfounded accusations against Morocco.
Tebboune claimed Morocco, alongside Israel and local opposition groups, were at the heart of a vast conspiracy that led to the disastrous wildfires in Algeria.
Algerian officials have continued to ratchet up their rhetoric amid Morocco’s determination to end the political stalemate between Rabat and Algiers.
Despite Morocco’s willingness to leave behind the hostility shown by the Algerian government, Algeria has turned a deaf ear, renewing its decades-long hostility against Morocco and its determination to stand in the way of the construction of the Maghreb Union.
In his speech, the King affirmed that Morocco shall continue on its development path “despite the enemies’ exasperation and the envy of those who hate us.”
