Denver- The international witch hunt against Morocco continues to crumble, as legal experts point out the lack of concrete evidence to support claims Morocco utilized the Pegasus software to spy on French officials.
French lawyer Olivier Baratelli, who is currently representing Morocco in its case against the accusers, stated in a recent interview that the groups levelling accusations have still not provided a shred of credible evidence against the North African country. Both groups attacked Morocco, claiming the country inserted the Pegasus software into the phones of several French journalists, as well as French President Emmanuel Macron.
Baratelli made the statements during an interview on French news outlet CNews, during which he affirmed neither Amnesty International or Forbidden Stories released any credible evidence of Morocco’s actions within the agreed upon ten day period, indicating the groups accusations were really a “deception.”
Morocco appointed Baratelli to represent Morocco in its legal defense against France in late July. Morocco also announced Baratelli will lead Morocco’s planned legal actions against the NGOs that initially started the scandal. Rabat announced in late July that it planned to sue both groups over the baseless claims made against the North African country.
Baratelli announced he would also provide an IT report that will undeniably “exclude any use by Morocco of this software.” Reports have already indicated that Morocco never had relations with the Israeli-based NSO group that originally developed Pegasus.
The attorney concluded by highlighting Morocco’s role as “a friend of France who helped a lot to thwart attacks on French territory.” He also implored the French authorities to “shed light on who could be behind this manipulation.” France has been widely criticized for its unjust accusations against Morocco, especially after analysts discovered President Emmanuel Macron was hacked by a completely different software, negating much of the groups’ initial accusations.
