The Moroccan Ministry of Health announced today that Morocco will adopt new measures to ease its current COVID-19 restrictions.
Moroccan officials updated its night curfew in response to the significant drop in the number of Covid-19 cases in recent weeks.
Starting on Friday, October 1,the nation-wide night curfew will extend from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. instead of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Restaurants, coffeehouses, gyms and hammams will be allowed to open with a half of their capacity.
Security services will allow movement across Morocco without restrictions if travelers present their vaccination pass, or a movement permit signed by authorities.
Public transportation will operate at 75% of their capacity instead of 50%.
Gatherings in public and closed spaces are allowed, provided that the number of people does not exceed 50.
The ministry called on people to respect the usual social distancing measures and continue wearing masks in public spaces.
Morocco has been under a state of emergency since March 2020. The government has renewed the measure on a monthly basis, as part of its efforts to combat the spread of the Covid-19 virus.Moroccan health officials announced 1,098 Covid-19 related cases and 1,608 recoveries in the past 24 hours. A further 19 deaths have been added to the national death toll, which currently stands at 14,296 since the pandemic broke out.
Morocco is now home to 19,069,557 fully vaccinated people, while the number of first dose-vaccinated residents has reached 22,632,510, according to the latest figures released by the Moroccan ministry of health.
The figures show that Morocco’s vaccination campaign is close to reaching the government’s initial objective of vaccinating 80% of the population by December.
Morocco is expecting new batches of Sinopharm and Pfizer vaccines as authorities appear to be seeking to accelerate the vaccination campaign to reach their goals within the planned time frame.
