Kenitra – A video advert from the Ministry of Health, widely shared on social networks, confirmed Morocco is well on its way to mandatory covid-19 vaccination.

In the animated short film, a character says that “If you don’t have a vaccination pass, you won’t be able to do anything.”

This is the first official announcement concerning the generalization of a vaccine pass in Morocco.

The document, which is currently used for inter-city travel, will soon be required for access to cafes, restaurants, hammams, theaters, cinemas, soccer stadiums, hotels, as well as major shopping centers, and means of transport, the ministry said, calling on people to get vaccinated.

The video is titled “The vaccine pass, an essential document for a normal life.” The date of entry into force of this new provision has not yet been specified.

All fully vaccinated Moroccans can download their vaccine pass through the liqahcorona.ma website, after receiving both doses of Sinopharm, AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccines.

The vaccine pass is different from the sanitary pass, however.

The vaccine pass, currently used in Morocco, only attests to a person’s vaccination.

Whereas the health pass, which came into effect on July 1 in Europe, includes three different types of COVID-19 certificates.

First is a vaccination certificate, indicating the type and manufacturer of the vaccine, the number of doses received, and the date of vaccination.

Second information provided in the health pass is a test certificate, indicating the type of test, the date and time of the test, and the location of the test as well as the result. Lastly, the health pass provides a certificate of recovery that indicates the date of the positive test result and the duration of validity, set between 4 and 6 months depending on the country.

The vaccine pass does not exempt people from the state-mandated curfew between 9PM and 05AM.

Only security, health and civil protection personnel, travel for medical emergencies, and people on mission orders issued by employers, are allowed past the 9pm curfew.

Traffic past 9PM remains prohibited until further notice. Failure to justify the reason for the trip may result in a ticket and a fine of MAD 300, approximately $30.

The vaccination pass allows free movement during the day, including from and to the cities of Casablanca, Marrakech, and Agadir.

The three cities have been subject to new restrictive measures announced earlier this week by the government, including restricted travel to and from said cities.
