Rabat – Jorf Fertilizers Company 5 (JFC5) and OCP Maintenance Solutions have announced the completion of the turbofan overhaul of a sulfuric line at Jorf Lasfar, a commercial port in the Atlantic coast of Morocco.
The collaboration, which completed its purpose in record time, was an intervention to correct an imbalance on the rotor of the high-speed steam turbine.
OCP explained in a statement that the turbofan is a major piece of equipment in the sulfuric process.
“It supplies the process of sulfuric acid with the preconditioned air necessary for the perfect completion of the combustion, conversion and absorption stages.”
The sulfuric acid resulting from the conversion is a “main raw material for the production of the phosphoric acid and fertilizer,” OCP added.
Traditionally, a similar operation takes an external service provider made of foreign experts 15 days for fixing.
But OCP and JFC5 carried out the intervention in a record time of nine days, Morocco’s fertilizer group announced.
The two parties were also able to cover the fault diagnosis and the definition of the repair action plan in less than 24 hours.
The operation is a second major overhaul from OCP’s staff.
In April of last year, a 100% Moroccan team succeeded in completing a total overhaul of a steam turbine with complete change of the rotor. The operation took place amid COVID-19 crisis, which forced the foreign experts who traditionally carry out the intervention to return home.
“This can only confirm the competence and technical expertise available to our employees and their ability to overcome the most complex and difficult challenges for the good of our OCP group and the Moroccan economy,” senior OCP official Youssef Azour said in April 2020.
