After more than a year of preparation, the program for the recovery of agricultural plastic waste in Morocco’s Souss-Massa region was launched on October 12, 2021.
This training program begins with the “training and support” of collectors and recyclers in the northern Moroccan region. A training session is scheduled for the OFPPT (Office of Vocational Training and Promotion of Work) Taddart training Center, located in Agadir.
Discussions will initially focus on “Finance and financial management.” There will also be six other sessions aimed at improving the technical, managerial, and fiscal efficiency of collectors and recyclers of agricultural plastic waste in Souss-Massa, primarily in Chtouka Ait Baha, Taroudant, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, and Agadir Ida-OuTanane.

This program, which will result in a circular economy practice for agricultural plastic waste in the Souss-Massa region, is being piloted by the Association Agrotechnologies du Souss-Massa (AgroTech).
The process includes the organization of a regional chain of sorting and recovery of agricultural plastic waste as well as the integration of informal units. A study will also be prepared on possible scenarios for the establishment of a platform to recover agricultural plastic wastes, along with the possibility of contributing to the rehabilitation of structured units from the acquisition of machinery.
By implementing this approach successfully, soils and waterways in Souss-Massa will be less polluted. According to Agrotech, this region produced approximately 55,000 tons of agricultural plastic waste between 2018 and 2019.
It will take Agrotech three years to complete its training program on recovering agricultural plastic waste from Souss-Massa. Currently, the association receives funding from the Ministry of the Environment in Morocco, the Council of the Souss-Massa Region, and the Directorate of Agriculture of that region.
