Denver- Morocco’s Ministry of Health is now recommending a third vaccine “booster” shot to fight COVID-19 and its many variants.
The Ministry of Health released a press statement detailing the new initiative, after receiving research from the Technical and Scientific Committee indicating the efficacy of a third shot.
“Following the recommendations of the national scientific committee and international scientific recommendations, a third dose of the anti-covid-19 vaccine will be administered as part of the national vaccination campaign, which has known since its inception a positive dynamic and broad citizen interaction,” health ministry officials stated.
The new announcement comes as government health officials continue working towards achieving target immunity rates against COVID-19 across the country. Health ministry officials called on both Moroccans and foreign nationals living in the country to participate in the third dose booster program.
Despite fluctuations, Morocco remains the leader in Africa in the fight against COVID-19. A series of strict health protocols and a proactive vaccination campaign has allowed the country to limit the impact of the virus, with nearly 20 million Moroccans having already received a first and second dose of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Future plans to develop and deploy a domestically produced COVID-19 vaccine will likely allow for lower cost and more available vaccine supplies, allowing for greater access across Morocco’s population.
Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco has taken the lead in the fight against COVID-19, with many other African nations commending the country for actions taken to the benefit of not only Morocco, but other countries across the continent.
