Fez – The filming of the fifth installment of Indiana Jones, which is currently taking place in Morocco, has been hampered by Morocco’s decision to suspend flights to the United Kingdom due to the deteriorating Covid 19 epidemic.
In October, the Indiana Jones filming crew started shooting in Fez. Filming began on October 17 and will last until the beginning of December 2021 in Morocco, taking place in the cities of Fez and Oujda.
More than 100 crew members are now organizing a stunt in Fez. Those who have landed in Morocco, however, will find it difficult to return home because of the kingdom’s recently announced flight ban on a number of countries.
“The flight ban left everything totally up in the air,” the Sun reported, citing a source close to the filming crew. “It’s not clear what will happen once the scene is completed,” they said, adding that the crew “could be granted a special exemption to fly home.”
The flight ban will remain in effect until further notice. Morocco announced the suspension of flights to and from the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands on October 20.
And with the filming of the Moroccan scenes of the next Indiana Jones not yet completed, directors “were left wondering whether to fly the crew home before the ban came in or how to get them back after,” according to the Sun.
Morocco’s government has been constantly adapting its COVID travel measures depending on the evolution of the epidemiological situation at home and in third countries.
Although Morocco’s own epidemiological situation has dramatically improved in recent weeks, authorities are still treading cautiously as they fear that completely lifting all restrictive measures could lead to another scary wave of COVID infections.
Morocco has been in a state of emergency since March 20, 2020, and the country’s government has been making sure to relax or reinforce its COVID measures based on the prevailing infection rates.
