Rabat – As Morocco decided to suspend flights to and from France starting from Sunday, November 28, Marrakech airport plans to manage 117 flights between Morocco and France between November 26-28.
The scheduled flights are expected to have a total of more than 22,100 passengers that will travel in both directions.
“Travelers who have the possibility and the means can still travel between Morocco and France by opting for European stopovers such as Lisbon and Madrid,” a tourist agent in Marrakech told Moroccan news outlet Le360.
However, as the end-of-the-year holidays approaches, the tourism sector in Morocco might see another obstacle to its resurgence due to the suspension of direct flights between Morocco and some European countries because of the continent’s fifth wave of COVID-19 infections.
A monitoring cell was installed in Marrakech airport on the evening of Thursday, November 25, in Marrakech. It includes representatives of the National Airports Office (ONDA), local authorities and the Consulate General of France, the same source added.
Morocco’s decision to suspend flights between Morocco and France intends to preserve Morocco’s recent achievements in terms of managing the COVID-19 epidemic and to cope with the deterioration of the health situation in some European countries.

The French government announced on November 24 that France is preparing new COVID-19 containment measures amid a surge in infections.
“We must protect the French people by building on what we have, to save the end-of-year festivities and get through the winter as well as possible,” Government Spokesperson Gabriel Attal said.
In recent weeks, Europe again saw a worrying wave of infections spread across the continent. The latest updates indicate that various European countries such as Italy, Ukraine, and Austria have introduced new sets of restrictions to curb the spread of the virus.
