Rabat – The People’s Rights Center organized on Tuesday in Fez a meeting dubbed “Moroccans united to fight violence against women,” in a bid to raise awareness on the social issue.
The meeting was conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development, Family and Solidarity, and the Social Development Agency (ADS).
The People’s Rights Center is a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1999 by a group of human rights activists in the Fez region, with an objective to create a national network for the defense of — and education on — human rights.
During the convention, the participants had the opportunity to discuss Law No. 103-13, the Moroccan law relating to violence against women, and to raise awareness on victims’ rights.

“The center is very committed to the combating violence against women, a phenomenon that has been growing in recent years,” said the vice-president of the People’s Rights Center in Fez, Amina Majdoub.
“The report of the commission in charge of the New Development Model noted the problems, constraints and challenges which hinder the integration of women,” she added.
The participants pointed out the modern issue of digital violence, which includes different forms of abuse through social media such as harassment, insulting or threatening texts, blackmailing or cyberstalking.
They also called the authorities to combine efforts to ban hate speech and violence on the Internet.
The 19th national awareness campaign for ending violence against women and girls (November 30-December 7) has chosen as its theme “Awareness in schools against violence against women and girls.”According to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), Morocco has registered 61,388 cases linked to all forms of violence against women since the start of 2021.
The alarming data shows that more efforts still have to be done to ensure women safety across the country.
