Rabat – Achraf Hakimi played the full match for Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night, helping the French champions defeat Aston Villa 2-1 and retain the UEFA Super Cup at Stadion Salzburg in Austria.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Aston Villa teenager Brian Madjo equalized just before half-time. Désiré Doué restored PSG’s advantage in the 61st minute, with VAR overturning an initial offside decision to confirm what proved to be the winning goal.
Hakimi started at right-back in Luis Enrique’s 4-3-3 formation alongside Marquinhos, Willian Pacho and Nuno Mendes. The Moroccan international remained on the pitch until the final whistle and was still pushing forward deep into stoppage time.
PSG had entered the match with limited preparation after several players returned late from their post-World Cup breaks. Luis Enrique acknowledged before the final that the situation had made preseason preparations difficult, with 15 PSG players having participated at the 2026 World Cup.
The holders nevertheless struck first through Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian winger cut inside from the left and powered his finish past Marco Bizot after Aston Villa failed to fully clear an earlier PSG attack.
Villa responded strongly, with 17-year-old Madjo causing problems for the PSG defense throughout the opening half. His persistence was rewarded in the 45th minute when John McGinn delivered from the right and Madjo converted from a tight angle to make it 1-1.
The goal made Madjo the youngest scorer in UEFA Super Cup history.

Doué delivers the winner
PSG introduced Ousmane Dembélé at half-time, and the France international played an important role in the decisive goal.
In the 61st minute, Dembélé released Doué down the right. The 21-year-old beat Bizot before the assistant referee raised his flag for offside, but a VAR review showed that Matty Cash had played him onside and the goal was awarded.
Villa continued to threaten, but PSG protected their lead through five minutes of added time to secure a second successive UEFA Super Cup.
The achievement places PSG alongside AC Milan and Real Madrid as the only clubs to win consecutive editions of the competition. Milan achieved the feat in 1989 and 1990, while Madrid won in 2016 and 2017.
PSG won their first Super Cup last year after recovering from two goals down against Tottenham Hotspur and eventually prevailing on penalties. Wednesday’s victory therefore gives Luis Enrique’s side a successful start to another season following their second consecutive Champions League triumph.
For Hakimi, the result adds another European trophy to an increasingly decorated spell in Paris. His full-match appearance also provided an early indication that the Moroccan captain is ready to resume a central role for PSG despite a shortened preseason following his World Cup commitments.
