Fez – Morocco’s Ambassador Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU), Mohamed Arrouchi, reiterated the country’s unwavering position towards the Palestinian cause.

“Morocco reaffirms its firm and clear position in favor of the Palestinian cause and continues its constructive and active commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East,” Arrouchi said before the ongoing 43rd Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) at the AU.

The diplomat stressed Morocco’s position on a lasting peace in the Middle East as a strategic choice. According to the Moroccan ambassador, the prolonged deadlock in the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides only fuels violence between the two parties.

He pointed out that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has major socioeconomic and humanitarian consequences for both parties and continues to destabilize the region.

Arrouchi outlined the need for political dialogue and bolstering confidence-building measures between the two parties to pave the way to the decades-long conflict.

The Moroccan delegation emphasized the vital role of various regional and international actors’ participation to put an end to unacceptable practices that jeopardize the path to a peaceful settlement.

Reiterating Morocco’s permanent commitment to participate in international efforts to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Arrouchi stated that the country will work with international partners to call for negotiations to reach a just and comprehensive solution within the framework of the two-state solution.

The diplomat emphasized King Mohammed VI’s efforts as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to maintain Al-Quds Acharif’s special status.

The Moroccan delegation emphasized Bayt Mal Al-Quds’ crucial contribution to the realization of socioeconomic and human development programs. The agency announced on January 26 that it approved $1 million in funds for social development in Al-Quds.

Following the establishment of new diplomatic ties with Israel, the Moroccan government has come under fire for allegedly abandoning the Palestinian cause. Rabat has consistently expressed its support for Palestine, most notably during the African Union’s Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) 41st Ordinary Session (AU).
