Rabat – Morocco confirmed 5,618 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total cases of infection to 977,579 as of January 5.
The North African country carried out 25,883 COVID tests in the past 24 hours. To date, Morocco conducted 9,962,366 tests since the outbreak of the pandemic in Morocco in March 2020.
Total recoveries reached 944,555, after 1,485 people recovered in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s recent data on the epidemiological situation in Morocco.
The death toll mounted to 14,872 after five people died in the past 24 hours. Health professionals warned that death cases are increasing notably in recent days from 13 COVID-related fatalities to over 25 per week.
Active COVID-19 cases stand at 18,152, including 194 cases in critical conditions.
With regards to vaccination, Morocco fully vaccinated 22,956,802 people to date. People who received first and third doses of COVID vaccines reached 24,578,221 and 3,269,319, respectively.
Casablanca-Settat confirmed the majority of the new COVID cases in the past 24 hours (3,490 cases, four deaths), followed by Rabat-Sale-Kenitra (1,246 cases, one death), Marrakech-Safi (433 cases), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (126 cases), Souss-Massa (115 cases) Fez-Meknes (58 cases), Beni Mellal Khenifra (48 cases), and Oriental (34 cases).
Draa Tafilalet reported 24 cases in the past 24 hours, followed by Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (16 cases), Laayoune Sakia El Hamra (15 cases), and Guelmim-Oued Noun (13 cases).
