Rabat – Morocco’s stars Yassine Bounou and Issa Diop have conveyed the Atlas Lions’ readiness for the much-anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will kick off on June 11 in the US, Mexico, and Canada.
Goalkeeper Bounou said the Atlas Lions arrived in good form, acknowledging that they are trying to adjust to the time difference.
He also thanked all fans who came to the camp where the national team carried out their first training camp.
“All players are happy and active… We know our fans are everywhere, and some even follow us wherever we go to cheer on us,” Bounou said.
Bounou’s and the Atlas Lions’ objective is to perform well during the 2026 FIFA World Cup to honor Moroccans and the whole country.
Football player Diop echoed Bounou’s determination, saying the first training session in front of the fans serves as an opportunity to meet them and adapt to the American weather conditions.
“We know that Moroccans are present all around the world, and we knew they would show up and support us…. We have a very good coaching staff that is doing everything necessary to ensure we are fully prepared on the pitch. We hope everything goes well and that we win this World Cup,” Diop explained.
Coach Mohamed Ouahbi also expressed full trust in his squad, stating that the Atlas Lions are in the US to achieve “great things.”
“We truly hope to make Moroccans proud of their team and to be proud of being Moroccans,” Ouahbi said.
Morocco’s World Cup opening match will take place on June 13 as part of the group stage. Morocco is in Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland and Haiti.
Fans and the sports community are expecting a lot from the Atlas Lions, who finished as a semifinalist in the previous 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
