Rabat – France has moved Morocco to its “green list” of COVID travel amid the remarkable improvements the North African country’s epidemiological situation has seen in recent weeks.
As of today, February 16, Morocco no longer appears on France’s orange list of countries with an active circulation of the virus. Conditions to enter France from Morocco will therefore be relaxed as well.
The French government announced its updated list in a decree published in the Official Journal of the French Republic on February, 15 2022.
The green list refers to countries with a “negligible or moderate circulation of the virus, in the absence of emerging COVID variants,” noted the decree.
Vaccinated passengers traveling to France from Morocco must present a proof of their vaccination by a vaccine recognized by the European Medicines Agency (Pfizer, Cominarty, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Vaxzevria, Covishield, and Janssen).
Unvaccinated travelers are required to either have a negative PCR test of less than 72 hours, an antigen test of less than 48 hours, or a certificate of recovery.
The certificate or recovery refers to a positive PCR test or antigen test taken more than 11 days ago and less than six months old.
Travelers coming to Morocco from France must present a valid vaccine pass and a negative PCR test of less than 48 hours before departure, as well as a printed, filled, and signed passenger health form. The form can be downloaded from https://onda.ma/form.php.
Passengers younger than six years old will not need a PCR test or a vaccination pass.
Random samples of PCR tests will also be conducted for randomly selected passengers. If the rapid test is positive, travelers must self-isolate at home or at a hotel if they are a tourist.
A 10-day quarantine in one of the government’s facilities is mandatory for non-vaccinated travelers visiting Morocco; unvaccinated travelers must pay for their quarantine.
Morocco lifted the travel ban on February 7. Borders were closed since November of last year as the Omicron cases surged in the country.
Many have expressed satisfaction with Morocco’s decision to reopen its airspace for international travel, including tourism professionals.
Workers in the sector suffered job losses amid a sector-wide economic crisis, and most tourism professionals hope for the recent reopening of borders to revive Morocco’s severely hit hospitality industry.
