Rabat – A delegation of Moroccan parliament members joined their international counterparts in New York, as part of the UN’s 2022 Annual Parliamentary Hearing, which was held on February 17-18.
The delegation included Mustapha Reddad, Omar Hejira, Fouad El-Qadri, Kamal Ait Mik, Hassan Shmes, and Abdelouahed Drwich, representing various Moroccan political parties.
The delegation explored venues for deepening bilateral cooperation between Morocco and the countries of the other delegations present at the New York event. They also discussed common issues facing the world, as well as frameworks to improve global parliamentary diplomacy.
Notably, the delegation met with their Israeli counterpart, headed by Knesset members Avi Dichter and Sharon Roffe Ofir, to discuss the future of Moroccan-Israeli relations.
The delegation also met representatives from Qatar, Jordan, France, Italy, and others, discussing mainly the ongoing COVID crisis and geopolitical challenges, as well as the role the world’s parliaments could play in mitigating the impact of lingering and emerging global challenges.
Morocco’s delegation also stressed the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening the diplomatic relations tying the country to the rest of the world.

More than 200 parliament members representing 65 countries participated in the event, which centered this year around gender equality and global cooperation against the COVID-19 pandemic.
