Rabat – Morocco and Austria appear set to address common challenges facing security, peace, and stability in Europe, Africa, and the Mediterranean basin.
In a meeting on February 16 between the speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami and the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Morocco Klaus Kogeler, the two representatives expressed their readiness to give impetus to cooperation between the two countries.
They welcomed the long-standing relations between the two countries, while the Austrian ambassador affirmed that his country “considers Morocco as a prominent partner in the MENA region,” said a statement from the House of Representatives.
During the meeting, Ambassador Kogeler emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy to promote Morocco-Austria relations and tackle multiple issues of common interest.
The diplomat extended an official invitation from the Speaker of the Austrian Parliament, addressed to Talbi El Alami, to pay a working visit to the Republic of Austria. The visit intends to be an opportunity to explore means to strengthen cooperation between the two legislative institutions.
Ambassador Kogeler highlighted that a parliamentary friendship group for the North African region has been established within the Austrian parliament.
Meanwhile, Talbi El Alami expressed his wish to receive the Speaker of the Austrian Parliament in Morocco, noting the impending launch of a Morocco-Austria parliamentary friendship group by Morocco’s House of Representatives.
The Moroccan parliamentarian highlighted that the October 2021 legislative session was characterized by intense activities, as it is the first legislative session of the House of Representatives after the recent elections.
Talbi El Alami outlined that Morocco-Austria common challenges include issues such as climate change and migration, and “require more coordination, cooperation, and mutual support,” the statement concluded.
