Rabat – Hundreds of people attended today the funeral of the 5-year-old Rayan who died trapped in a well. The funeral took place after the Dhuhr prayer in Tamort commune, near Chefchaouen.
The body of the little Rayan arrived at the burial site in the mountain village of Ighrane this afternoon.
The family of the deceased Ryan set up a large condolence tent, while Moroccan authorities prepared a place for funeral prayers for the deceased boy.
Several individuals attended the funeral prayers, and security and logistical preparations were made ahead of Rayan’s funeral to ensure the best security conditions for the funeral.
According to the Moroccan Broadcasting and Television National Company (SNRT), authorities deployed bulldozers to pave the road and facilitate access to the funeral site, while also preparing a parking area due to the ruggedness of the terrain in the area.
Royal gendarmes and auxiliary forces as well as local authorities were also on site to manage the funeral, which was attended by hundreds of people.
Authorities have begun filling the well where Rayan fell, as well as the nearby tunnel, the length and narrowness of which had required rescuers strenuous efforts to reach the now deceased boy.
The story of Rayan, who was trapped in a narrow and 32-meter well between February 1-5, shook the world.
Despite days-long rescue operation and sleepless nights, Rayan was announced dead shortly after being freed from the well.
His body was transported on the same night to the military hospital in Rabat for an autopsy to examine the cause of death. The results have not been revealed yet.
Rest in peace, Rayan!
