Rabat – Several members of Morocco’s national football team attended this year’s Throne Day celebrations as guests, joining King Mohammed VI during one of the Kingdom’s most significant national ceremonies.
The Atlas Lions invited to the event were part of the squad that made history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup by reaching the quarterfinals for the second consecutive tournament. Their presence at the royal ceremony reflected the importance of the team’s achievements, which have further cemented Morocco’s place among world football’s elite.
Seated in the front row were goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, captain Sofyan Amrabat, goalkeeper Mounir Mohamedi, forward Brahim Diaz, and defender Noussair Mazraoui. Directly behind them sat midfielders Bilal El Khannouss and Neil El Aynaoui, along with Salah-Eddine Anas and defender Issa Diop.
Their attendance at the Throne Day celebrations comes after another memorable World Cup campaign, in which Morocco once again reached the last eight, becoming the first African nation to achieve back-to-back FIFA World Cup quarterfinal appearances. The accomplishment confirmed that the Atlas Lions’ remarkable performance in Qatar was no one-off, but rather the continuation of a new era for Moroccan football.
The players’ presence at the ceremony also highlighted the growing role of football in Morocco’s national identity.
