Rabat – The number of Moroccans who left Ukraine through border crossings reached 2,030 people as of Tuesday, March 1.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the number is divided between Poland (835), Romania (549), Hungary (346), and Slovakia (300).
The ministry said it dispatched 20 consulate officials, including four former consulates generals to help Moroccan embassy teams welcome Moroccans and provide them with necessary assistance in the four countries.
On February 12, Morocco called on its citizens to leave the country as soon as possible.
After the escalation of tension and the closure of the Ukrainian airspace, Morocco’s government urged its citizens in Ukraine to leave the country through crossing points with Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and Romania.
Morocco’s flag carrier Royal Air Maroc scheduled nine flights to repatriate Moroccans from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary.
On March 2, Royal Air Maroc will operate three flights connecting the destinations to Casablanca.
Royal Air Maroc will also operate six other flights on March 3-4 to repatriate citizens.
Morocco allowed Mauritanin students to use Royal Air Maroc flights to also flee the conflict zone.
