Moroccan FC Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has reportedly extended his contract with the Spanish club.
Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo reported on March 30 that Bounou has signed an extension contract for Sevilla, yet to be officially announced.
Bounou’s current contract with Sevilla extends until mid-2024, with a market value of €15 million. It is still unknown how long the new extension will last.
The club’s managers decided to keep the extension secret for strategic reasons, according to the news outlet.
Bounou is having an outstanding season for Sevilla, which has put him on the radar of a number of other European clubs.
FC Barcelona and Manchester United were said to be interested in signing the talented goalkeeper. With this revelation, Bounou is unlikely to be transferred in the near future.
Bounou’s stellar performance made him Morocco’s number one goalkeeper, with Bosnian coach Vahid Halilhodzic counting on him in the last two playoffs against DR Congo.
Subject to an injury in his head, the Moroccan goalkeeper left the game in the first half of the second leg against DR Congo, a game where the Atlas Lions sealed their ticket to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 with a 4-1 win.
Bounou appeared after the game to reassure his fans about his health status, but FC Sevilla is unsure that the goalkeeper can go back to the pitch anytime soon.
FC Sevilla’s goalkeeper has a goalkeeping record equivalent to conceding a goal every 144 minutes, earning him the best ratio of goals conceded per minute so far this year, according to La Liga.
