Raja Casablanca beat South Africa’s AmaZulu 2-0 today at the Princess Magogo Stadium, in Durban, South Africa, as part of the second round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
The Green Eagles entered the game with great ambition to dominate the AmaZulu on the pitch.
Raja’s Hamid Ahadad scored a spectacular goal, assisted by Mohsine Moutaouali, six minutes after the game kicked off.
Raja’s maintained impressive composure, dominating the pitch for most minutes of the first half.
Raja’s newly-signed coach Rachid Taoussi chose to play with a 4-3-4 lineup.
The eagles put Amazulu’s goalkeeper under constant pressure, sending the South African club to spend the rest of the first half on defense.
AmaZulu players, however, grew back into the game, making some timid attempts to reach Raja’s net. A strong Green’s defensive wall made goalkeeper Marouane Fakhr more a spectator than involved in the game.
The first half ended with the guests leading the game by 0-1 over the South African host.
The second half kicked off with AmaZulu bent on coming back into the game and attempting to finally score in Fakhr’s goal.
The Green Eagles wasted several precious opportunities to boost its score, given AmaZulu’s disequilibrated defensive wall. The hosts had more possession of the ball but could not make it through Raja’s defensive wall
The visitors had a golden opportunity in the 72nd minute when Abdeljalil Jbira picked the ball inside the box, but AmaZulu’s goalkeeper was in the right place.
Four minutes later, Ilias Haddad netted the second goal against AmaZulu at the minute 77th.
With this win, Raja continues to lead Group B with 12 points, with Algeria’s ES Setif second with six points, Amazulu third with six points and Guinea’s Horoya fourth with three points.
Raja has now officially qualified for the quarter finals of the competition after dominating their group and earning a comfortable conclusion of this stage of the tournament.
