Rabat – The General Directorate of Meteorology issued a new weather alert, forecasting strong rainfall for several provinces across Morocco.
The weather office said that rainfall, strong wind, and snowfall will hit several regions across Morocco, starting Tuesday, March 15, through Thursday.
The weather directorate said that strong rainfall ranging between 30 to 60 millimeters will concern several prefectures, including Safi, Tiznit, Inzegane-Ait Melloul, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Agadir Ida Ou Tanane, Taroudant, Sidi Ifni, and Guelmim.
The rainfall will be accompanied by occasional thunderstorms.
The weather alert also forecasts snow falls from 30 to 70 centimeters in Azilal, Beni Mellal, Khenifra, Midelt, and Al Haouz.
Snowfalls will also continue until Thursday, March 17, in the aforementioned regions.
Meanwhile, snowfalls ranging between 15 and 20 centimeters will hit the cities of Ifrane, Boulemane, Taza, Sefrou, Chichaoua, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Tinghit, Al Hoceima, Guercif, and Figuig.
The weather will also witness strong winds ranging between 75 to 85 kilometers per hour in several regions, including Jerada, Oujda Angad, and Figuig.
The rainy weather followed months of drought, affecting millions of farmers.
Agriculture is a pillar of Morocco’s economy. The sector employs nearly 22.2% of the workforce, according to Credit Agricole bank.The agriculture sector also contributes to 11.7% of the country’s GDP.
