Rabat – Morocco’s capital Rabat hosted on March 4 a conference on south-south cooperation at the Mohammed V University, to discuss strengthening ties between Morocco and Latin America.
Themed “Morocco-South America: South-South Cooperation,” the event was billed as an occasion for politicians, experts, and academics to reflect on the growing relations between Morocco and South America, and to propose possible venues for future cooperation.
In a series of in-person and virtual events, the conference comprised two main sessions. During the first session, attendees explored the dynamics of cooperation binding Morocco and South America that extends to politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, science, culture, with an eye to paving the way for cooperation that would bring prosperity to both parties, the event’s organizers said in a press release.
Shedding light on Morocco’s Atlantic proximity to South America, the first session invited participants to discuss questions relating to the theme “Political and Diplomatic Relations Dynamic,” noted the statement.
During the conference, participants pointed out the pivotal role Morocco has played in fostering south-south cooperation. Attendees especially referred to Morocco’s potential to harness its strategic geographical position to bridge the distance between the Arab world, Africa, and Latin America, the statement explained.
As for its second session, the conference organized discussions around the theme “Academic and Cultural Relations: Contemporary and Future Opportunities.”
The session focused mainly on shedding light on the cultural and historical heritage binding the two parties, and how to use the existing ties to further boost bilateral cooperation on a wide range of fields.
Attendees called for the strengthening of academic and cultural cooperation as the backbone of maintaining healthy diplomatic relations, according to organizers’ press statement.
Attendees equally discussed possible mechanisms to reinforce cross-civilization dialogue and respect cultural diversity, the statement concluded.
