Rabat – Eid al-Fitr 2022 in Algeria is expected to fall on May 2, according to the International Astronomical Center (IAC).
Based in Abu Dhabi, the center is a reliable scientific reference for astronomical calculations and studies.
IAC reported on April 20 that the moon sightings would take place in Algiers on Sunday, May 1 with a telescope or with the naked eye under the best weather conditions.
Similar moon sighting conditions extend to Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Mauritania, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia, the IAC added.
Eid al-Fitr represents the official end of Ramadan. It is a day of celebration and quality time.

In preparation for the Eid, Algerian families prepare or buy traditional cookies and cakes for Eid breakfast. Adults also purchase new clothes for their children along with other gifts and put aside little amounts of money for the kids.
In the early morning, Algerians tend to go to the mosque for the Eid prayer. Following prayer, they head to their house for breakfast before meeting with fellow family members, neighbors, and friends.
Algerians share celebration wishes by repeating the following expressions such as “aid mubarak” or “saha aidek” (happy eid) and “Taaydou bel saha ou el hena” (may you celebrate the eid with health and joy).
Being a national holiday, Eid provides people with the opportunity to visit the graves of their late ones to include them in the celebration.
On April 14, Algeria’s Ministry of Religious Affairs fixed the Zakat el-fitr amount at DZD 120 per person.
The ministry further recalled that “Zakat Al-Fitr is obligatory for every Muslim, whether wealthy or poor, who has a surplus of daily subsistence which he must take out for himself and his dependents.”
