Rabat – Moroccan supporters’ group Rosso-Verde has called for fair refereeing ahead of Morocco’s World Cup quarter-final against France, expressing concerns that officiating may favor the French side.
Recalling what many Moroccans view as controversial refereeing during the national team’s 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-final against France in Qatar, Moroccan supporters say Thursday’s quarter-final in Boston will once again place the match officiating under intense scrutiny.
They argue that football matches are no longer decided on the field, commenting that are made over the years by prominent coaches, players, and former FIFA officials who have raised concerns about refereeing and the governance of the sport.
For the supporters, the Morocco-France clash offers FIFA an opportunity to reinforce confidence in its officiating standards by ensuring a fair and transparent performance from the match officials.
The statement argues that football belongs to its supporters and should not be influenced by commercial interests or external pressures that could affect the outcome of matches or the path to the World Cup final.
