Rabat – May 2 will mark Eid Al Fitr 2022 in Canada, according to Muslim community centers and moon sightings.
The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) announced the date, along with the times for Eid prayers.
According to numbers from 2017, Canada’s Muslim population reached more than 1 million people, representing 3.2% of the country’s population.
While the country still does not grant an official holiday for Eid or other Islamic festivities, Muslims close their businesses and offices throughout the country for at least one day.
Public figures and politicians in Canada have also celebrated the occasion in recent years, along with other Islamic holidays, in an acknowledgment of Canada’s growing Muslim population.

Eid Al Fitr is the day when Muslims end their compulsory Ramadan fast, and is marked by celebrations, new gifts and clothes, and early morning prayers.
Throughout North America, mosques and Muslim community centers see additional crowds on the day, with people using them to socialize and connect with their communities.
The date for Eid Al Fitr and other Islamic festivities changes from year to year, as the Islamic lunar calendar does not line up with the Gregorian calendar, meaning a moon sighting is needed every month to determine the exact dates.
