Rabat – Eid Al Fitr 2022 is predicted to fall on Monday, May 2 in France, according to The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM).
The French Muslim Council, or “Conseil Français du Culte Musulman” (CFCM), is in charge of determining the Eid AL Fitr date in France.
In order to determine the last day of Ramadan, on the evening of the 29th day of Ramadan, the council relies on both astronomical calculations and a moon-sighting committee to look for Shawwal’s crescent moon.
May 1 will mark the “night of doubt”- the night of the announcement of the exact date of Eid Al Fitr.
Eid Al Fitr begins the day following the night of the first sighting of the crescent moon. If the moon is not discovered after the 29th day, Eid is celebrated the next day.
Since the Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, Ramadan, and other Islamic months, lasts 29 to 30 days, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Even though Islam is not the majority religion in France, the Muslim community in the European country is relatively large, with many migrants from Muslim countries, especially North Africa.
France is home to the largest Muslim population, with more than 5 million Muslims, according to the Pew Research Center.
After performing communal Eid prayer in the mosque, Muslims gather with their families, friends, and loved ones to celebrate Eid Al Fitr.
Worshippers exchange gifts and eat delicious food, celebrating the end of Ramadan and congratulating themselves on fasting for the holy month, as well as welcoming Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic calendar.
Eid Al Fitr celebration, which lasts up to three days, is a reward for Muslims who spent Ramadan fasting and worshiping god. The holy month is an opportunity to get closer to God and do good deeds.
Muslims are required to perform “Zakat Al Fitr” during Ramadan, before Eid Al Fitr. It is an obligatory act of charity to help those in need.
