Rabat – Spanish football club Sevilla announced today that it will renew the contract of Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

Yassine Bounou signed a one-year extension to his current contract that was due to expire in 2024. The new contract will expire in 2025.

With the Moroccan keeper’s Sevilla contract now set to end in 2025, the one-year extension comes as no surprise to fans and observers given his consistently world-class performances in recent seasons.

At 31 years old, Bounou has managed to keep Sevilla’s goal clean in 50 games out of the 99 games he has to date played with the Spanish team.

Bounou’s outstanding performances this season have put him on track to win the Zamora Trophy, a Spanish award for goalkeepers who have the lowest goals-to-games ratio.

The Moroccan goalkeeper has a record of conceding a goal every 144 minutes, winning him the best ratio to goals for the year, according to La Liga.

Since signing with Sevilla in 2019, Bounou has played 65 games in the top-tier Spanish League, eight in the Spanish Cup, 11 in the European Champions League, 14 in the Europa League, and one in the European Super Cup.

The Moroccan international’s excellent season with Sevilla has put him on the radar of other European clubs, and his current market value is estimated at €15 million.

FC Barcelona and Manchester United have been rumored to be interested in signing the Moroccan goalkeeper, but such reports have decidedly been put to bed with the announcement of a one-year extension to the Moroccan’s contract.

In February, the Sevilla goalkeeper won the new LaLiga Santander African MVP Award for his stellar mid-season performances. The award is based on fans’ votes on social media.
