Rabat – The northern Moroccan city of Tangier will host the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon event in October 2022 with the participation of several international and Moroccan athletes.
The international competition is expected to last for three days, from October 28 to 30.
The IRONMAN 70.3 Tangier triathlon will first begin with a 1.9km swimming loop in the Mediterranean coast before moving to the next race which consists of a 90km bike ride.
During the bike course, athletes will pass through several seaside monuments such as Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules.
The last challenge of the 21km run will start from the Tangier Marina along Mohammed VI Avenue and will consist of three 7km loops along the boardwalk.
“The IRONMAN 70.3 Tangier will be an exceptional race, which offers the opportunity to contemplate the meeting point of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean,” the organizers said in a statement.
The 2022 race is expected to welcome over 2,300 participants from 70 countries, including 350 Moroccan athletes, according to Morocco’s state news agency MAP.
The organizers aim to further promote Tangier’s strategic geographical location, infrastructure, and its appeal to tourists and athletes from around the world.
Mayor of Tangier Mounir Laymouri and representatives from the organizing committee of IRONMAN 70.3 held a meeting on April 8 to discuss the preparation of the renowned event.
