Rabat – Morocco, and Bahrain signed a memorandum of cooperation on renewable energy earlier today.
The document was signed during a virtual meeting between Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, and Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Affairs Minister, Wael Bin Nasser Al-Mubarak.
Also attending the meeting was the Moroccan Ambassador to Bahrain, and Bahrain’s Chief Executive Officer of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), Shaikh Nawaf Bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa among other officials from both countries.
Under the terms of the memorandum, the two countries hope to boost bilateral cooperation in the field of renewable energy, according to a statement reported by Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
The two countries notably pledged to cooperate on the implementation of renewable energy initiatives and increase investments in research in the renewable energy sector.
In terms of investments, the two countries said they are committed to supporting the sector’s potential to attract private investment, and encourage the exchange of information in energy projects.
The agreement further covers the development of energy storage capacity.
During the signing ceremony, Morocco’s energy minister stressed that Morocco and Bahrain will draw on their joint expertise and knowledge in the fields of renewable energy to reach their national energy goals.
For his part, Bahrain’s minister underscored the significance of the memorandum, stating that it is in line with his country’s sustainable energy aspirations. He further added that the agreement will offer a platform for the two countries to exchange expertise and boost their sustainable energy sectors.
