Rabat – The Tafukt Space for Creativity is organizing, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cultural and artistic activities for Moroccans living in European countries throughout the upcoming month of June.
“Aferziz,” a play that was produced as part of the Moroccan government’s support for the theater sector and deals with Amazigh culture, will be shown as a main fixture of the activities.
There will also be various other plays and musical events, in addition to events dedicated for children.
The events will be held in cities in Spain, France, and Italy, as well as other smaller events with different partners in Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland.
The activities aim to reconnect Moroccans in these countries with their culture and homeland, as living abroad can feel isolating.
A large number of Moroccans live in countries like Spain, Italy, France, and the Netherlands.
“Moroccan Wedding,” a film releasing on June 2, will deal with similar topics of diaspora identity issues, focusing on the Moroccan community in the Netherlands and specifically young women who are torn between professional careers and marriage.
Events celebrating Moroccan culture abroad have seen increased publicity and popularity over the past few years, with embassies and ministries also becoming more eager to sponsor them.
Earlier this year, the Moroccan General Consulate in Strasbourg hosted “The Moroccan Sahara Days,” for the benefit of Sahrawi women, and honoring the defense of Moroccans over their country’s territorial integrity.
