Rabat – Agadir’s municipal authorities are testing its new cable car that is set to be operational by July 2022. The project’s owner Abdelaziz Houayss said on December 14 that the cable car intends to link the Tildi bridge to the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella through a 6-minute ride.
The $20 million (MAD200 million) project will be launched along with the recently restored kasbah. Local authorities announced that the project is on track and is currently in the control and testing phase.
Agadir’s cable car, made by Austrian construction firm Doppelmayr, is one of two components of the international camping project “Sous Camp” launched in 2019. The camp will also host the “Dania Land” amusement park.
The project was suspended in 2016 due to high seismic risks in the construction area.
In March 2020, regional authorities allotted an alternative location to host the project, which was officially approved on October 7, 2021.
The cable car is equipped with D-line technology that requires simple and quick maintenance. The first line of this cable car consists of 30 cabins, while the second holds 18, which can transport up to 1,000 people per hour.

The cable car is part of the Agadir Urban Development Program 2020-2024 that seeks to make Agadir a major economic hub.
Interviewed by Le360 in March 2022, General Manager of the Local Development Company Agadir Souss-Massa Planning Mounir Jbilou indicated that nearly 60% of the allocated $300 million budget (MAD 3 billion) has already been invested.
At least 80 projects are planned for Agadir’s urban development.
Many of them are operational and open to the general public, including 20 public sports facilities, the green spaces in Anza, and restored halls Zerktouni and Al Qods. Jbilou assured that the majority of projects should be completed within the allotted time, except for five projects that will take a little more time including the covered room in Adrar, the Olympic pool, and “Souk Lakhmis.”
