Rabat – Morocco’s higher education, scientific research, and innovation ministry announced on Wednesday launching an online platform for Moroccan students returning from Ukraine.
The platform aims to help Moroccan students who were pursuing academic studies in Ukraine access documents related to their studies in Ukrainian universities, according to a ministry press release quoted by Morocco’s press agency (MAP).
The platform is accessible at https://etudiants-ukraine.enssup.gov.ma, and students can access and download the documents between May 17-31, the statement noted.
In the same statement, the ministry called on students to respect the said time window, stressing that the platform will not be available beyond May 31, 2022, at exactly midnight.
More than 8000 Moroccan students were pursuing academic studies in Ukraine when Russia invaded the country in late February.
At the time, Moroccan students represented the second-largest community of international students in the country.
Upon returning from Ukraine, Moroccan students are facing significant challenges while trying to find their way back to school.
Morocco’s higher education ministry said that the number of students who were enrolled in medical studies surpasses the current capacity of the country’s medical schools.
The ministry further specifies that students returning from Ukraine will have to sit through an eligibility test given the competitive nature of the medical and engineering majors.
After intensive meetings with the country’s universities, the minister added that students in the medical field will have to meet Morocco’s pedagogical requirements to graduate should they be admitted to the country’s medical schools.
The minister did not exclude the possibility of remote learning for the students to offset capacity issues.
In addition, the ministry stated that the country is in the process of negotiating with two western European countries – Hungary and Bulgaria – as they have a similar education system to that of Ukraine, and they could potentially host Moroccan students.
