Rabat – Hosted at Marrakech’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the 2022 Morocco Fashion Week, organized by Oriental Fashion Show (OFS) offers the perfect opportunity to showcase Moroccan fashion. The event will last from 2-4 June, and feature the attendance of a number of exciting and unique designers.

Many designers, such as Rena, Zahra and Hind Tahiri, will be showcasing their latest collections at the show. As part of their collections, these designers have created new variations of the caftan, representing Morocco’s fashion history and culture.

Rena, grew up in Casablanca before moving to Europe, where she lived in London, Paris and Milan. Her collection titled “Rena” draws inspiration from her mother’s fashion house “Renata” which has over 40 years of experience.

“What I’m doing is a versatile, modern version of the caftan… taking the traditional heritage and making it something really easy to wear,” Rena told Morocco World News. With regards to what occasion her collection is best suited for, the designer said “For lunch or dinner, cocktails or even beachwear”.

Each creator has crafted their own individual take on traditional Moroccan clothing. Zahra, who has lived in Madrid for 13 years, says she has always worn caftans to events in Spain. “People used to tell me they loved it, and that I needed to make something here [in Spain] for us”.

Zahra has since released her first range, called ‘Zaz’. Talking to MWN, the designer emphasized she wanted “to create something between modern and oriental, dressed with a Moroccan touch…Spanish people are really impressed by these elegant dresses.”

Other designers have been inspired by the oriental region as a whole. Hind Tahiri is originally from Tangier but has lived in Dubai for the past 15 years and began her fashion career three years ago. Discussing the inspiration behind her newest range dubbed “Cruise,” Tahiri said “It is inspired by countries all over the world, there is a touch of Greece, Spain, Morocco, Dubai”.

The pandemic has also impacted Tahiri’s work. “I’ve been inspired a lot by Dubai, because I’ve been staying in resorts for stay-cations because of Covid, so I’ve been doing a line especially for this,.” she told MWN.

The fashion show will display a broad range of outfits and designs, from unique caftans as part of the ‘Rena’ and ‘Zaz’ ranges, to more casual beachwear from Hind Tahiri’s ‘Cruise’ collection.

This gathering of diverse designers at this edition of the Oriental Fashion Show’s Morocco Fashion Week has been warmly received by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The up-scale hotel’s General Manager, Marcel Thoma, expressed his excitement for the show. “We believe it’s going to be a fantastic event, I am looking forward in particular to the old couture show.”.

With regard to the fashion designers present at the event, Thoma said that “most of the designers are new… Moroccan designers who live abroad bring international influence and there are some really stunning creations.”
