Rabat – Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance following their 1-0 victory over Scotland in their second Group C match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Atlas Lions controlled large parts of the game and created several opportunities, although they only managed to score once.
Speaking after the match, Ouahbi said Morocco showed clear progress compared with their opening 1-1 draw against Brazil.
“We controlled the match and imposed our style,” Ouahbi said. “I am very satisfied because I saw better intentions than in the first game.”
The coach explained that his players entered Scotland’s penalty area more often and showed a stronger desire to score.
“We had a greater presence inside the opponent’s box and a clear desire to score more goals,” he added. “The only thing we lacked was the final touch.”
Morocco show improvement
Ouahbi said the team’s development gives him confidence ahead of Morocco’s final group match against Haiti.
“I can see that we have improved compared with the first match,” he said. “That is why I believe we will be better in the third game.”
The coach stressed that collecting three points was the main objective, while continuing to improve from one match to another remains equally important.
“The most important thing was to win and continue progressing with every game,” he said.
Morocco entered the match after holding Brazil to a 1-1 draw in their tournament opener.
The victory over Scotland moved the Atlas Lions closer to qualification for the knockout stage and increased confidence within the squad.
Ouahbi praises defensive character
The Morocco coach also praised his players for remaining organized during Scotland’s late pressure.
Scotland pushed forward in the closing minutes, relying heavily on long passes and crosses as they searched for an equalizer.
“We knew Scotland would put us under pressure at the end of the match,” Ouahbi explained. “We expected them to use long balls and crosses.”
However, Morocco’s defenders remained composed and protected their narrow lead until the final whistle.
“Our players showed strong character and stayed organized,” he said. “That ending will help us a lot during the rest of the tournament.”
Ouahbi believes the experience of defending under pressure will be valuable if Morocco face similar situations later in the competition.
Focus turns to Haiti
Morocco will complete their group-stage campaign against Haiti.
Ouahbi said the win over Scotland made the squad stronger and more confident ahead of the decisive fixture.
The Atlas Lions will aim to produce another improved performance while securing their place in the next round.
