Rabat – Mortada Mansour, President of the Egyptian football club Zamalek SC announced, earlier today that the Moroccan footballer Achraf Bencharki has decided to leave Egypt for Qatar or Turkey.
Mansour shared the news in a Youtube video where he addressed some Zamalek fans who wanted the club’s management to convince the international player to stay with the team.
Mansour quoted Bencharki in the video as saying “I love Zamalek but I want to travel to Qatar or Turkey.”
The statement came from a previous meeting between the Zamalek administration and the Moroccan player where Bencharki refused to renew his contract with the Egyptian team despite insistence from both the club’s board and fans.
“Bencharki was supposed to renew his contract before last December 31 with the former board, and we only took over the club on March 10,” Mansour added, stressing that Zamalek will not beg for Bencharki’s return as the club is known for “dignity, patriotism, and pride.”

Mansour further called upon “some Zamalek fans” to not “humiliate” their club by constantly calling on the team’s administration to go the extra mile in convincing the Moroccan player to stay.
“This is a Moroccan professional player. We brought him from Saudi Arabia, he was originally in France. A Moroccan player,” he insisted.
Bencharki joined Zamalek from the Saudi club Al-Hilal in July 2019. He appeared in 100 matches throughout his journey with the Cairo-based team, scoring 39 goals and assisting 26. He also helped the Egyptian club collect four trophies.
Details on Bencharki’s potential transfer are yet to be announced as the player has still not commented on the news.
