Moroccan international and Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi is the sixth highest paid African footballer, earning more than $215 thousand per week, according to data published earlier this week by the football-focused news website GiveMeSport.

Pocketing a weekly salary of £176 thousand ($215.8 thousand), Hakimi came ahead of Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe ($171.7 thousand), Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha ($159 thousand), and Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita ($147 thousand).

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich‘s newest signing Sadio Mane tops the list of the highest-paid African players with his weekly wage of more than $306 thousand. Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is the second most paid African player, with a weekly salary of $269.8 thousand.

Closely following are Manchester City’s winger Riyad Mahrez and Arsenal’s midfielder Thomas Partey who each earns $245 thousand per week.

Ghanian international and Al-Sadd SC star Andre Ayew comes in fifth position with a weekly salary of $220.7 thousand.

In addition to being one of the highest-paid African players, Hakimi is also one of the top earners in Ligue 1, France’s top-tier football league.

According to a report published by the French daily newspaper L’Equipe in March, the PSG right-back estimated monthly salary stands at €1.08 million (MAD 11.55 million) before tax.

With this staggering salary, Hakimi is by far the highest-paid of the Moroccan players in Ligue 1.

Following an impressive campaign with Italian giants Inter Milan in the 2020-21 season, Hakimi signed with PSG last summer a record-breaking contract that runs until 2026.

His move to the French club was ranked by FIFA as the third most valuable transfer in 2021.

In the 2021-22 season, the 23-year-old right-back made 32 appearances with the French club in Ligue 1, scoring four goals and delivering six assists.

In addition to his remarkable performance at club level, Hakimi is also an indispensable player in Morocco’s Atlas Lions squad. He is highly regarded as one of the architects of Morocco’s World Cup qualification.

Many Moroccan football fans hope that Hakimi will fare well in the upcoming World Cup and carry the Moroccan team to the advanced stages of the tournament.
