Rabat – Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has called for firm refereeing ahead of his side’s 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Argentina, insisting that the match should be played within the laws of the game.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, De la Fuente avoided criticizing Argentina’s physical style of play but highlighted the importance of Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić’s role in controlling the contest.
When asked whether he was concerned about Argentina’s aggressive approach, the Spanish coach stressed that enforcing the rules would be key to ensuring a fair final.
“There is one important aspect here, and that is the referee’s performance,” De la Fuente said. “Referee Slavko Vinčić must not be lenient or allow anyone to cross the limits of the law or go beyond what the rules of football permit.”
The Spain boss also expressed complete confidence in the officiating team and his players’ preparation for the occasion.
“I have full trust in the referees, and I also trust that we know exactly the kind of match we have to play,” he added.
The World Cup final will see Spain and Argentina battle for the title in what promises to be one of the tournament’s most anticipated clashes.
