Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd has officially confirmed his departure from the French club Rennes FC in an emotional post on Instagram.
Aguerd shared today a post on Instagram announcing that the Ligue 1 game against Lille OSC on May 21 was his last match with a Rennes FC jersey.
“It is with great emotion that I announce that the past game was my last with Rennes FC,” wrote Aguerd, adding that the decision to part ways with the French club was difficult as he “lived exceptional moments since my arrival at the club in 2020.”
The Moroccan center-back went on to extend his heartfelt gratitude to the fans and leadership of the French club l for their unconditional support and trust during his time with them.
He also thanked the team players and the club’s technical and medical staff for their impressive work and dedication over the past years.
The 26-year-old defender further highlighted his most remarkable moments with Rennes, citing his first games with the club in the French Ligue and the Champions League.
Aguerd stressed that he gave his all on and off the pitch, underlining that the French club will always hold a special place in his heart.
“I will always be your first supporter,” he concluded.
The Moroccan defender was one of the indispensable players in the Rennes squad this season, making 40 appearances in all competitions.

Aguerd’s exceptional form with the French club has caught the attention of several renowned clubs in Europe’s top leagues, especially the English Premier League.
In recent weeks, the Moroccan center-back has been heavily linked with a move to the English club West Ham United.
The East London club has made a €35 million offer to Rennes to make Aguerd one of their first summer arrivals, The Guardian wrote earlier this month, stressing that West Ham United is in dire need of a center-back with Aguerd’s profile.
Aguerd has been hugely praised among fans of the English club, with many considering him as the perfect long-term successor for injured 34-year-old Italian Angelo Ogbonna. Various transfer market experts and watchers strongly believe that the London club will sign the Moroccan center-back soon.
