Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Education on Friday announced the results of the baccalaureate exams, noting that 231,272 students (66.28%) successfully passed the test, marking a drop from last year’s rate of 68%.
The ministry added that 51% of enrolled students passed with “honors,” with the highest grade of 19.44 over 20 going to Zaid Lahroussi from the Casablanca-Settat region.
Ten of the top 13 Moroccan students with the highest grades are females from the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra, Casablanca-Settat, and Marrakech-Safi regions, the ministry noted.
Nine of the top students, including Zaid, majored in physics in the French language while the rest majored in economics in Arabic or mathematics in French.
The ministry’s data further indicates that the success rate among the 132,258 female students who took the baccalaureate exam this year was higher than the national average. Female candidates’ success rate was estimated at 70.87%, while the success rate among male students was 61.01%.
As for candidates who sat for the international baccalaureate, the success rate reached 73.2%. Meanwhile, 54.60% of enrolled students in the vocational program passed the national exam.
However, the success rate among “free baccalaureate” candidates dropped this year, standing at 30.77% against 41.93% in 2021.

The national drop in success rate this year is reflected in an increase in the number of students who will retake the exam. The ministry reported that 171,519 Moroccan students are expected to retake the baccalaureate exam on July 15,16,18,19. The results for the retake session will be announced on July 22.
Meanwhile, roughly 570 people were arrested following the baccalaureate exams this year for their alleged involvement in committing acts of fraud during the exams, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said on June 27.
The charges concerned candidates who possessed and commercialized computer equipment used for academic fraud. The cases were recorded across the country
particularly Casablanca (158 cases), Agadir (71 cases), Rabat (38 cases), and Marrakech (36 cases).
Similar charges of fraud are likely to be reported in the retake session, triggering more division among the Moroccan public between those who empathize with the students and others who are urging the government to take strict measures against the arrestees to put an end to fraudulent conduct among students.
