Rabat – King Mohammed VI will give a televised speech later today to mark the 23rd anniversary of his ascension to the throne.
The speech will be broadcast on Morocco’s national television and radio networks at 9PM, carrying on the yearly tradition of royal speeches for the occasion, the Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol, and Chancellery announced this morning.
All other festivities and celebrations of the national holiday have been postponed indefinitely, the ministry said, citing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and adding that only the King’s traditional speech will proceed as scheduled.
Among the postponed activities are the reception ceremony that was to be chaired by the King, the oath-taking ceremony of graduating military officers, as well as other large parades.
This is the third year in a row that the pandemic has forced celebrations for the holiday to be put on hold.
Messages of congratulations have been coming to Morocco from several world leaders on the occasion of the Throne Day.
On Friday, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud sent a letter to King Mohammed VI, congratulating him on the anniversary.
