Temperatures will range between 39 and 49 degrees Celsius, in a newly announced heatwave that will hit several provinces across Morocco from Friday until Sunday, the first day of Eid Al Adha.
Marking a new red level weather alert, the General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) said that temperatures between 46 and 49 degrees will hit several provinces, including Taroudant, Tata, Assa-Zag, Smara, Youssoufia, Sidi Bennour, and the interior of the provinces of Safi, Essaouira, Agadir-Ida-Outanane, Inezgane Ait Melloul, and Guelmim.
Temperatures between 39 and 45 degrees will hit many other provinces in central, southern, and northern cities.
The temperatures will concern Ouezzane, Taounate, Moulay Yaacoub, Fez, El Hajeb, Meknes, Sefrou, Sidi Slimane, Khemisset, Sidi Kacem, Beni Mellal, Khenifra, Khouribga Fkih Ben Saleh, Settat, Kelaa des Sraghna, Essaouira, Chichaoua, Marrakech, and Rehamna.
Larache in northern Morocco will also experience the heat, as well as Berrechid near Casablanca, Benslimane, Errachidia, Zagora, Tiznit, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Tan Tan, Sidi Ifni, and Nouasseur.
Sale, Rabat’s twin city, and nearby cities of Skhirat and Temara will also record temperatures varying from 39 to 45 degrees, along with Medouna, El Jadida, Boujdour, Ousserd, and Oued Eddahab.
High temperatures are common in the North African country during the months of July and August.
Citizens and residents across the country are advised to stay hydrated, especially since Eid Al Adha preparations are ongoing.
On Sunday, July 10, Moroccans will celebrate the feast of sacrifice. Most families celebrate the feast on their houses’ rooftops and balconies, where the slaughtering of the livestock for the feast of sacrifice occurs.
Hydration can prevent people from suffering from health crises, including cramps, heat stress, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.
