Rabat – Moroccan midfielder Imane Saoud, who recently impressed at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), joined on Tuesday Switzerland’s women’s football club Servette FCCF.
The 20-year-old football player, who has signed a three-year contract with the Swiss club, will be wearing jersey number 7 with her new team.
Saoud launched her career in 2018 at FC Vendenheim in the French league before joining Switzerland’s FC Basel in 2020, where she played 44 matches and scored 10 goals.
Despite her young age, Saoud has a “lot of potential,” said Richard Feuz, Sports Director and Vice-President of Servette FCCF, adding that her talent would “energize” the club’s attack.
Feuz’s comments came as a welcoming message to the Moroccan player, with the vice-president saying: “We are very pleased with Imane’s signature.”
For her part, Saoud announced the news on Instagram on Tuesday with a caption that highlighted her desire to quickly establish herself as a dependable, solid performer and teammate at her new club. “Starting this new experience in this great historical club is a new stage in my career.”
She added: “This new project is driven by a lot of ambition. I am looking forward to meeting my teammates, the staff, the field and the fans in my new garnet colors.”
Saoud went on to address special thanks to her family for giving her the “strength” to pursue her football dream.

In July, the 20-year-old midfielder joined Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in the WAFCON tournament.
In what many Moroccan football fans and observers have described as the Lionesses’ best performance ever, Saoud was a comforting presence in the Moroccan midfield throughout the tournament.
Despite losing to South Africa 2-1 in the final, Saoud and her Atlas Lionesses teammates won the hearts and minds of Moroccan fans with their historic run to the WAFCON final and their equally historic qualification for the 2023 World Cup.
Speaking after what she described as a soul-crushing defeat in the WAFCON final, Saoud offered mixed feelings of immense pride and utter disappointment: pride in representing her country and disappointment for losing the cup.
“This symbolic African Cup of Nations on our soil ends with a taste of bitterness at the door of the final,” she said in an Instagram post on July 25.
“This beautiful team has given everything to the end and it is a pride for me to have been able to be part of it,” she added, thanking King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan Royal Federation of Football, and the Moroccan fans for their support. “I am happy to have conquered the hearts of Moroccan fans. Thank you for your support and messages.”
