Rabat – The funeral of Britain’s late Queen Elizabeth II is set to take place on Monday, September 19 at 10:00 GMT.
The British queen passed away this week at the age of 96 after reigning for 70 years.
According to converging news reports, the queen’s coffin will be taken from Balmoral Castle to Scotland’s capital Edinburgh on Sunday. The coffin will then be flown to London on Tuesday.
The coffin will remain in Westminster Hall from Wednesday until the morning of the service. The funeral will officially take place at Westminster Abbey in London.
“We will carry out our duty over the coming days with the heaviest of hearts, but also with the firmest of resolve to ensure a fitting farewell to one of the defining figures of our times,” the Duke of Norfolk Earl Marshal, Edward Fitzalan-Howard said.
According to reports, the queen’s remains now rest in an oak coffin covered with the royal standard of Scotland covered with a wreath of flowers in the ballroom of Balmoral Castle.
Upon his mother’s death, Queen Elizabeth II’s son Charles III ascended to the throne. He was crowned earlier today at St James’s Palace as England’s new monarch.
During the coronation ceremony, Britain’s new 73-year-old king said: “I know how deeply you and the entire nation, and I think may say the whole world, sympathize with me in this irreparable loss we have all suffered.”
