Rabat- Moroccan reggae band the Rulerz and French reggae-soul musician Vanupie will perform on Wednesday, October 26 at the Studio des Arts Vivants in Casablanca and at the Taghazout Surf Expo on October  28.

Singer-songwriter Vanupie, whose real name is Jean-Christophe Dorado, draws his influences from reggae, soul, pop and electro.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the concert, Vanupie shared an instagram post with his fans saying, “Soon in concert in Morocco. I’ve been dreaming about it since my childhood. I can’t wait to be with you.’’

Ligne Rouge, the producer of the concert, aims to create musical fusions between international and Moroccan artists. Tickets to the concert are available online.

The French musician gained recognition while performing in the subways of Paris. This is where he met the film director Francois Dupeyron who subsequently used four tracks from his album for his film Mon Ame Par toi Guerie, (known in English as One of a Kind).

The musician soon became a Youtube sensation with his song Rockadown which has over 89 million views. He has also produced several albums including, FreeBirds and Gold.

In the Moroccan Reggae scene, the Rulerz’s performances employ a skillful  combination of their own compositions and covers of notable reggae artists.

They draw inspiration from Bob Marley, and also from Jamaican groups from the 70’s such as Black Uhuru, The Gladiators, Peter Tosh, and Skatalites.

The Moroccan band was created in 2015 in Casablanca and is composed of lead singer and guitarist Adil Hanine, backing vocalists Amina Takieddine and Sabrina Derdar, Rachid Yagoub on keyboard, Philippe Laffont on trumpet, and bass player Othmane Fassi Fihri.
