Rabat – Morocco’s community in Qatar launched an online campaign to express their gratitude for the Gulf country’s support for Morocco’s World Cup team.

In an Instagram page for the Moroccan community in Qatar, members launched an initiative to hold banners and pictures of King Mohammed VI with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the 22nd minute of Morocco’s game against Canada tomorrow.

In addition to featuring the two monarchs, the picture includes the Qatari and Moroccan flags with the phases: “Thank you Qatar,” and “Thank you Tamim.”

In a post, Moroccans behind the initiatives called for others to print the picture on paper, and flags in a show of thanks to Qatar for supporting the Moroccan team.

“Members of the group have proposed the idea to convey gratitude to this country we live in and in a show of our thanks to its Emir, and his family for their support and love for the Moroccan national team and the Moroccan flag,” the post reads.

The call for the initiatives comes one day after King Mohammed VI reportedly called Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. During the call, King Mohammed VI congratulated Qatar’s Emir on hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, applauding the excellent organization and expressing his wishes for success to all teams partaking in the tournament.

Qatar’s Emir was spotted cheering for Morocco’s national team at Al Thumama Stadium on Sunday in the game against Belgium. The video of the Emir celebrating the Atlas Lions’ victory went viral.
