Rabat – Morocco’s Touria Sbiri won an award dedicated to businesswomen at the 69th World Congress of Women Entrepreneurs (FCEM) held in Marrakech between November 2 and 4.
The award honors women who have made significant contributions to the business world. Sbiri won the award for the impressive work she is undertaking in the field of waste management in Morocco.
Sbiri is currently head of the Moroccan Federation of Waste Management Workers (FEDERECC) and is an advocate for workers in the field. Through her advocacy, she calls for the economic inclusion of waste management workers and the eradication of informal activities in the sector.
Commenting on winning the FCEM award, Sbiri said that it is a “great recognition” that is encouraging her to pursue her goal of contributing to her country’s development.
“I dedicate this trophy to all women entrepreneurs who have gone out of their comfort zones to build, excel and build beautiful successes,” she said.
“I also dedicate it to my little family that I don’t see very often because I am constantly crisscrossing the different regions of Morocco and attending events that are related to the sustainable development sector, but who have been supporting me since the day they decided to join me in Morocco and to be part of my dream of a Morocco where waste will be properly managed and revalued,” she added
Sbiri’s work in the waste management sector goes beyond advocating for workers’ economic inclusion; the FEDERECC also contributes to nationwide efforts to decarbonize the economy, as Sbiri pointed out during the El Jadida event.
Morocco “must decarbonize its industry before the beginning of 2023, as the EU will implement a tax on carbonized products, which would slow down Morocco’s economy unless we transition to environmentally-conscious products,” she said earlier this year during a world-class event on decarbonizing the world economy.
