Rabat – Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman congratulated Morocco for its qualification for the semi-finals in a phone call with King Mohammed VI on Monday.
During the phone call, the Saudi Crown Prince congratulated the King and expressed his satisfaction with the “historic achievement that made Morocco the first Arab and African country to reach this stage.”
Morocco qualified for the semi-finals on Saturday after beating Portugal 1-0.
The win sparked celebrations in Morocco and across the world, including in the Middle East and Africa.
Following the win, the King of Morocco received several phone calls from world leaders, who congratulated the Atlas Lions for itching the semi-finals.
The list of heads of states who called the monarch, includes Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas, and King Abdullah II of Jordan.
As well as President of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, and President of the UAE Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan also contacted the monarch, expressing congratulations.
French President Emmanuel Macron also contacted the King to congratulate him on Morocco’s win.
Several other officials congratulated Morocco in their social networks, including President of Senegal Macky Sall and Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari.
The US also supported Morocco’s win, emphasizing the importance of the qualification for Africa.
Morocco will play its semi-final match on Wednesday against France. Macron is reportedly going to attend the match to support his country’s team.
